\tAs a horror filmmaker, Rob Zombie has fostered an impassioned following over the past two decades, with a body of work characterized by its black humor and unvarnished violence, made all the more engrossing by the perverse but productive sympathies the director has for his movie monsters . Now, Zombie has completed his most shocking venture yet \u2014 an adaptation of the wacky, wholesome ’60s sitcom \u201cThe Munsters.\u201d With friendly faces and a very conspicuous PG rating, the movie is unlike anything Zombie has made before and arguably his most boldly stylized work yet.<\/p>\n

\t\u201cA lot of people have said to me: ‘Finally, I can watch one of your movies with my kids,’ which I don’t have kids so that’s kind of meaningless to me. But that’s nice!\u201d Zombie tells variety<\/em>. \u201cThis is how I got into everything as a kid. This is for the next wave of monster fans coming our way. This movie is the gateway drug for more hardcore horror.\u201d<\/p>\n \n \tUniversal Pictures Home Entertainment releases \u201cThe Munsters\u201d on digital platforms, Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday. The film stars Sheri Moon Zombie, Zombie’s wife and enduring marquee lead, alongside Jeff Daniel Phillips and Daniel Roebuck, two more of the filmmaker’s regular collaborators.<\/p>\n \n \tMoon plays the spirited vampiress Lily, who falls head-over-heels for Phillips’ newly resurrected forest-green rockstar Herman Munster. The Count, Lily’s fretful father, is played by Roebuck, who \u201calmost drove off the road because he was so excited\u201d when first learning of the project, according to Zombie.<\/p>\n \n \t\u201cDan would have been a ’60s sitcom actor,\u201d Zombie says. \u201cIf you ask him for his favorite actor, it’ll be Don Knotts. He loves Paul Lynde. That’s his wheelhouse. \u201d<\/p>\n
