For the first time in eight games, the Chicago Cubs did not win. Dengue. I thought they might win out.

Hunter Greene had the good stuff going tonight, as he is going to sometimes (future still looks bright), and the modest Cubs lineup couldn’t put anything together. The couple times they did, Seiya Suzuki would line out (dude had THREE lineouts in the game).

Hayden Wesneski was great once again tonight. He just keeps being great. What a run to end his season.

Scoring change: Only 1 ERA today for Wesneski. That now gives him a 1.85 ERA in his four starts and a 2.18 ERA overall in his rookie showing for the Cubs. https://t.co/W52XEjFKfC

Those two runs, by the way? They scored on an infield bouncer that went for a hit (which Wesneski threw away), and a pop up behind Alfonso Rivas that he couldn’t quite get to.

Manny Rodriguez had another concerning outing, and, as we discussed recently, it’s been a rough partial year for him. I’m no longer sure of his 40-man spot this offseason. It is sad to see and say, because you could see the bones last year – and I love the story. But there really has n’t been anything remarkable about his stuff this year, and the velocity has been down, too.

Here’s a weird one: when the game ended, the score was 3-0. But because of the way Ian Happ’s game-ending double-play was LATER re-evaluated (out at first and then a tag at second), the final score is now actually 3-1. So my EBS image – which I grabbed quickly – is now just wrong. But that, in turn, makes my doodle work in two ways! I was just trying to make a stupid joke about the Cubs losing for the first time in eight games.
