Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are reportedly getting cold feet about their still-unconfirmed Netflix docuseries. And it could cause the project to be scrapped for good — just like Markle’s animated series with the streamer.

As part of their massive Netflix deal, Harry and Meghan reportedly filmed a docuseries on their lives in Montecito, California, as they raise their two children, Archie and Lilibet. But in light of the queen’s passing, the duo is rumored to be requesting major edits to the footage, which has put the entire project in jeopardy. Many assume the footage includes discussion of the couple’s strained relationship with the royal family, which they may want to edit now that King Charles III, Harry’s father, is sitting on the throne. according to a Daily Mail source, they are trying to “downplay much of what they have said about King Charles III, Queen Consort Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales.” The filmmakers behind the series are reportedly fighting to keep the footage in the production, a conflict the Daily Mail suggests could keep the documents from being released. Another source told the tabloid, “They’ve made significant requests to walk back content they themselves have provided — to the extent that some Netflix staff believe, if granted, it will effectively shelve the project indefinitely.”

Netflix is reportedly supporting the documents director, Liz Garbus, and there remains hope the show could be released in December or early 2023. “Netflix has made it clear that the project is going forward,” a source told “Page Six.”

Meanwhile, Harry is reportedly in talks with the publishers of his highly anticipated memoir in the hopes of editing his thoughts on the royal family in light of his grandmother’s death. A source close to Charles claimed to the e-mail that the palace is currently wondering, “Can the book be stopped?” The source conceded that, given the book was originally set for a fall release, that might not be possible. “But the feeling at the very top is that there’s no good that can come of airing grievances in public.”

Harry and Meghan’s standing with the royal family is currently in flux. Although the two briefly reunited to honor the queen, their public mourning was accompanied by many rumors of behind-the-scenes family drama — including over Harry’s military uniform and him being uninvited from a royal-family reception of world leaders. And despite Charles settling into his role and the end of the official mourning period for Queen Elizabeth, he has yet to confirm Archie and Lilibet’s new titles. According to normal rules of succession, as grandchildren of the king, the two children should be known as prince and princess, but the royal family’s official website still lists them as “Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor” and “Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.” The Sunday times reported that a source said, “For [Buckingham Palace] not to make those changes suggests that something is off.” “Page Six” suggested Charles is waiting to see what is in Harry’s memoir and the docuseries before making a decision.
