Eileen Ryan, an actress and the mother of actors Sean and Christopher Penn and musician Michael Penn, has died. She was 94.<\/p>\n

Ryan’s representative Mara Buxbaum confirmed the news in a press release Monday. <\/p>\n

Ryan’s death comes a week before what would have been her 95th birthday on Oct. 16. The actress died Sunday. <\/p>\n

Throughout her career, Ryan appeared in numerous classic television shows, including “The Twilight Zone,” “Bonanza,” “ER,” “Matlock,” “Little House on the Prairie,” “NYPD Blue,” “Ally McBeal,” ” CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Men of a Certain Age,” “Private Practice,” “Prime Suspect” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”<\/p>\n

Each movie credits included 1989’s “Parenthood,” 2002’s “Eight Legged Freaks” and 2005’s “Feast.”<\/p>\n

Ryan met actor-director Leo Penn in 1957 while rehearsing for a production of the Eugene O’Neill play “The Iceman Cometh” at the Circle in the Square Theater in New York City.<\/p>\n

The couple moved in together within a week of meeting and married a few months later. They remained married for 41 years until Penn’s death in 1998.<\/p>\n

Together, they had three sons: actors Sean and Christopher Penn and singer-songwriter and composer Michael Penn.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was a lioness,\u201d Sean Penn said of his mother in his 2006 New Yorker profile. \u201cBoy, she she could dress down those authority figures. She she was unintimidatable.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the New Yorker, Ryan once said “all the passion I had for acting went into being a mother” and that she and her husband “had a great marriage.”<\/p>\n

“We were never bored with each other,” she added. “We grew together.”<\/p>\n
