MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin offensive tackle Logan Brown has been dismissed from the program due to “an internal incident,” interim coach Jim Leonhard told reporters Thursday morning. Brown had posted a tweet Wednesday night saying that he was entering the transfer portal.

“It was not a choice,” Leonhard said. “He was dismissed from our program.”

Brown declined to comment when reached by phone Thursday morning.

Brown, a member of Wisconsin’s 2019 recruiting class, became the program’s first five-star signee in 12 years. He was rated in the 247Sports Composite as the No. 4 offensive tackle and the No. 17 prospect overall in the country. He missed his first season because of a torn labrum in his left shoulder and played 58 snaps as a redshirt freshman in 2020 and 70 snaps as a reserve last season.

Brown was in position to earn Wisconsin’s starting right tackle role to open this season but lost the spot to redshirt freshman Riley Mahlman and later to redshirt sophomore Trey Wedig after Mahlman sustained an injury. Brown appeared in all six games for Wisconsin this season with three starts — two at right tackle and one at left tackle. He played 18 snaps last Saturday against Northwestern in a package as an inline blocking tight end.

Leonhard was asked whether he could provide any more information on the situation that led to Brown’s dismissal.

“Not really at this time,” Leonhard said.
