“If what you did yesterday seems big, you haven’t done anything today.” —Lou Holtz

Notre Dame (3-2) will look to win its fourth straight game as they host Stanford (1-4) Saturday night at Notre Dame Stadium. The Irish will also be looking to win its fourth straight game against the Cardinal.

But don’t let Stanford’s record deceive you – they have talent and an experienced coach in David Shaw (12th year).

Shaw is 5-5 all-time against Notre Dame and, for a few years early in the Brian Kelly era , terrorized him like a “bully stealing lunch money”. Shaw would then enter the post-game press conference, after those wins, chewing his gum with an “I told you so” swagger while heaping praise on the Notre Dame team he defeated.

But that was then, and this is now.

A win over the Irish would alleviate the pain for Stanford fans, albeit momentarily, and, perhaps, save Shaw’s job – but don’t count on it.

Notre Dame is playing its best football of the season and the team is ready for the physical contest with Stanford in, yet, another “measuring stick” game for Marcus Freeman’s program.

Look for the Irish to execute effectively with another “day at the office” effort by quarterback Drew Pynewhile the Notre Dame defense will create “chaos” with its scheme and punish the Stanford’s offense.

Prediction: The Irish will be consistent and confident as they dominate in all phases of the game to improve to 4-2 overall with a 38-17 victory over the Cardinal to keep the Legends Trophy in South Bend for another year, while Marcus Freeman will talk about how good a football team Stanford was in the post-game.
