PITTSBURGH — Kenny Pickett’s first home start was off to a surprisingly good start for himself and the underdog Steelers, who led the Buccaneers 10-9 at halftime. Pickett would exit the game in the third quarter, however, when he was hit by Buccaneers linebacker Devin White. Pickett was ruled out for the remainder of the game with a concussion.

On the Steelers’ first drive, Pickett threw his first career touchdown pass, a six-yard completion to Najee Harris. The score snapped the Steelers’ 14-game drought without a first-quarter touchdown. Pittsburgh extended its lead late in the second quarter when Chris Boswell’s 55-yard field-goal attempt hit the lower crossbar before bouncing inside the uprights.

Pittsburgh’s defense, despite being without several starters that includes TJ Watt and Minkah Fitzpatrick, forced Tampa Bay to settle for field goals in the first half after stiffening in the red zone. The Steelers’ defense was able to consistently put pressure on Tom Brady, who completed less than half of his 21 attempts in the first half.
