Alabama-Utah State point spreads moved more than a TD since opening line

Nobody expected tight betting lines when Alabama scheduled Utah State to open the 2022 season. The latest numbers show some of the initial appraisals might have been a little generous.

Alabama is now favored by as many as 41.5 points for the 6:30 pm CT Saturday visit from the Aggies, according to VegasInsider.com.

That’s a long way from Caesar’s initial offering back on May 15. The line opened at 31 points at 12:29 pm before moving to 33.5 points by 10:57 pm that same day. The next smallest opening spread offered among the Vegas books was DraftKings at 34 points back on May 18. That number is now 41 points.

Alabama is the consensus No. 1 team in every major preseason rankings while Utah State already has a game in the books.

The Aggies’ rebuilt offense beat visiting UConn, 31-20 after falling behind by two touchdowns early. Utah State scored 24 of its 31 points in the final 12:30 of the second quarter.

Former Alabama receiver Xavier Williams was listed on the participation chart for Utah State but did not record any stats in his debut with the Aggies.

The line at both BetMGM and Points Betjumped two points to 41.5 after Utah State’s less-than-impressive performance against a struggling UConn program.
