After a boisterous hero’s welcome during his return to Yankee Stadium, Derek Jeter thanked Hal Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman – to a crowd of jeers.
During Jeter’s Hall of Fame celebration Friday, Yankee fans initially showered Steinbrenner with boos while he walked out with a massive check for Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation.
Even the Yankees legend’s thanks afterward for Steinbrenner and his family were met with a mixed reaction among the crowd
In response, Jeter scanned the stadium before his face turned to a grin.
“Let me tell you something. You better cheer, trust me,” Jeter said to engage more of a positive reaction. The Bronx faithful then grew louder.
Jeter thanked Cashman right after. The crowd wasn’t friendly toward the Yankees general manager either.
Public appearances for Yankees’ brass since mid-July have been met with boos due to the Yankees’ massive skid, and a potential all-time collapse.
While being labeled as the best team in baseball in the first half of the season, the Yankees have a 19-27 record since the All-Star break.
The slip has caused the Bombers to have 15.5-game AL East lead erased to just 4.5 games entering into a pivotal series against the Rays this weekend.
