As people ponder Sunday’s College Football Playoff rankings, the real controversy might have taken place at halftime of the SEC Championship Game.
The Dr Pepper ball toss was met with boos in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium during Georgia’s 50-30 win over LSU when the contest went into overtime.
In the end, both competitors were awarded $100,000 in tuition.
Baylor student Reagan Whitaker was initially awarded the win over St. Augustine student Kayla Gibson, despite the overtime ending in a tie. That’s when the confused fans started their jeers.
Dr Pepper said in a statement that Whitaker had scored the most points in the preliminary round.
However, it was announced on the broadcast in the fourth quarter that Dr Pepper would gift both Whitaker and Gibson, of Fontana, California, with $100,000 in tuition.
