Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 6, Red Sox 5

Hey, it doesn’t mean the trajectory of this season is changing, but the Cubs just came back from an early 4-0 deficit to beat a very good Red Sox team.

Another great day for Ian Happ – he just has so many these days that a three-hit game goes almost unnoticed – and three walks for Willson Contreras. PJ Higgins with another good game, and the bullpen was fantastic.

Adrian Sampson was still periodically flashing some good stuff today and getting a lot of whiffs, but the big difference in this one compared to the last two was that when the Red Sox weren’t whiffing, they were hitting rockets. Most of those rockets came bundled up early, and he was down 4-0 before the second inning ended. To his credit, he settled in a bit from there and at least got the Cubs into the 6th having allowed just the four earned (and one unearned).

That at least gave the Cubs a chance at the comeback, which they pulled off, capped by ANOTHER Christopher Morel homer, and then a thanks-for-the-lead wild pitch.

Meanwhile, the Cubs handled an old friend who always seems to have their number …
