Meghan Trainor gets candid about life after releasing hit song All About That Bass: ‘I was so sick’

Meghan Trainor is opening up about reaching pop stardom after the release of her song All About That Bass.

In an interview with CNN, the 28-year-old singer-songwriter revealed that her schedule became overwhelming after the song took off in 2014.

‘My health couldn’t keep up,’ she revealed. ‘I got bronchitis all the time. I was so sick and didn’t know how to take care of myself.’

She was also asked by interviewer Chris Wallace about the controversy surrounding the song. Though some praised it, others felt it shamed naturally skinny individuals.

‘I was so naïve of what was happening [with that],’ she admitted. ‘I was so sure of every door will finally open. I finally worked hard enough that now everyone will want to work with me and it would be easy now.’

Despite these initial beliefs, Trainor said she quickly learned that would not be the case.

All About That Bass was released in 2014 and took the world by storm. It received three Billboard Awards nominations, winning two, and two Grammy nods.

Trainor touched on other topics in the interview as well including her new album Takin’ It Back which she has worked hard at promoting recently.

She performed on the Today Show Friday to plug the new album which came out that day.

Just before her performance, the mother-of-one was asked about her son Riley by hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb which triggered an emotional response.

‘I have to sing!’ Meghan said as she almost began to cry, looking at her adorable child who could be seen in the audience with her husband Daryl Sabara.

Dressed in a hot pink bodysuit and with her blonde hair in pigtails, it appeared as though the Grammy winner was doing her best to switch from mommy mode to pop star diva.

‘Everything is like much more important,’ Meghan told Hoda, 58, when she was asked how motherhood had changed things.

‘Every song means more. I think of him, like, when he’s ten years old he’s gonna hear these songs and I want him to be proud.’

She spoke about about wanting to live a healthy lifestyle so that she can stay with her last ‘forever.’

The hitmaker married Sabara – a former child star most famous for playing Juni Cortez in the Spy Kids movie series – in 2018 after meeting him at a house party in 2014.
