NBC’s Notre Dame Voice Jac Collinsworth ‘Blown Away’ By BYU

LAS VEGAS – The voice you will hear during NBC’s BYU/Notre Dame broadcast on KSL 5 TV is Jac Collinsworth.

Collinsworth, the son of former Cincinnati Bengal and Sunday Night Football analyst Chris Collinsworth, sounds like his father. And like his dad, he’s polished and well-prepared as he navigates his first season as the play-by-play voice of Notre Dame Football on NBC.

Collinsworth will be in the Allegiant Stadium booth with analyst and former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett for No. 16 BYU versus Notre Dame on KSL 5 TV and Peacock. Kickoff is at 5:30 pm (MT).

In preparation for the Shamrock Series tilt involving BYU, Collinsworth, spent at least half of his week during Notre Dame’s bye getting prepped on the Cougars.

Jac Collinsworth is impressed with the BYU football operation

The prep has continued into this week for Collinsworth and Coach Garrett by having conversations with individuals around the BYU football program. Including head coach Kalani Sitake.

“It was easily one of the most impressive groups across the board that we have met with ever,” Collinsworth said about BYU to KSL Sports. “And we left that meeting, and I sort of was calling Coach Garrett and our producer going, ‘Holy smokes. I mean, these guys are just so impressive and thoughtful and kind.’ It’s not just the coaching staff, it’s the players and you know, it’s the PR staff … I mean, we were just so blown away by the way that they carry themselves and inspired by them.”

Former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett has respect for Kalani Sitake

You’ll be hard-pressed to find anyone that doesn’t enjoy a football conversation with Sitake. Add Jason Garrett to the list.

“I think that Coach Garrett was really engaged with Coach Sitake,” Collinsworth said. “You could tell that the respect from those two goes back years. You know that they had admired each other from afar. And I think they had plenty of connections across the way.”

Collinsworth pointed out that Saturday night is one of the biggest games on Notre Dame’s schedule this season, with it being a primetime Shamrock Series game. He noted that the production side of this broadcast has been “massive.”

“Notre Dame has been able to take the Shamrock Series and grow it to some really cool stadiums. Going to Jerry’s World in Dallas and playing in Yankee Stadium [in New York]. They played a game up in Boston on a baseball field as well. So they’ve really been able to take this series all over the place,” Collinsworth said. “And now to go to Vegas, which is becoming a football town, it’s crazy. I feel we’re (NBC NFL team) there a couple of times, two or three times a year here lately and that stadium is unbelievable. If you haven’t been there, it’s one of the coolest stadiums anywhere in the country. So it’s a massive production and one of the biggest games we’ll do all year without question.”

Now it’s up to the teams to enhance the production on the field with a memorable game that has all the making of being an instant classic.
