Texas QB Quinn Ewers leaves Alabama game after landing on left shoulder

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers had to exit the game against Alabama in the first quarter after he landed on his left shoulder while getting hit by the Crimson Tide’s Dallas Turner.

Ewers threw the ball away as Turner was approaching. Turner, who was flagged for roughing on the play, was in mid-air as Ewers threw the ball and as he went to the ground he landed on top of Ewers.

Ewers immediately laid on the ground and grabbed his left arm. After he was tended to by Texas ‘training staff, he walked off the field as his left arm dangled from his side. Ewers soon walked to the Texas locker room with a towel over his head. Before the injury, Ewers was 9-of-12 passing for 134 yards and had looked fantastic against a very good Alabama defense.

According to ESPN, Ewers is out the rest of the game. He returned to the sidelines in the second half without his uniform on.

Hudson Card came into the game to replace Ewers. Just before the injury, Ewers had hit Xavier Worthy on a deep pass to set up a first and goal. The Longhorns scored on the first play of the second quarter to tie the Crimson Tide at 10-10.

Card split time with Casey Thompson at QB for Texas in 2021. A star Texas high school QB, Ewers enrolled early at Ohio State in 2021 and transferred to UT before the 2022 season and won the starting job in fall camp. This post will be updated with more information on Ewers’ status as it becomes available.
