If you saw the most recent footage of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope you might be wondering about the changes with the game’s hero lineup.

Nintendo Everything had the chance to speak with the game’s lead producer Xavier Manzanares and asked about the decision to exclude Yoshi from the main cast. It was explained how Ubisoft didn’t want to just do the “same thing again” and this meant also evolving the hero roster – with characters such as Bowser.

Here’s part of the response:

When we started to think about the team and the heroes, we didn’t want to go for, ‘Okay, we did it before, so we have to do the same thing again’ and trying to evolve what we had in Kingdom Battle. So it’s true as well for the heroes.

We decided early on to go for nine heroes. We didn’t know exactly which ones, and we didn’t want to go for ones that are in Kingdom Battle because that’s the rule. As it’s not a direct sequel, we talked and we still believe today that players would be more interested and think, ‘Okay, the choice they made for the heroes and what they put in the game are logical because of the archetypes and what they do in battle, and it’s cool, and the synergy is super cool.’

In the end, the team opted to go with new characters such as Rabbid Rosalina and even the Mario antagonist Bowser. There’s also the mysterious ‘Edge’ who will appear alongside Mario, Luigi, Peach and their Rabbid forms.

Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is out on the Nintendo Switch this week, and the reviews are now flooding in.

This two-in-one remaster collection contains the classic platformers Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veiland there’s also a demo now available to download from the Switch eShop.

Our Nintendo Life review will be live in the coming days, so for now here’s what some other outlets are saying about Klonoa’s return!

To start off, our sister website Push Square gave the PlayStation 5 version 7/10 – admitting it may do more for players who experienced these games during their prime:

“Phantasy Reverie Series is a relatively no-frills remaster collection. There’s a couple of quality of life improvements and the games have a fresh lick of high definition paint, but if you didn’t like Klonoa back in the day then you’re not going to like it now. If you didn’t play Klonoa at the time then you won’t have the prerequisite nostalgia goggles necessary to gaze upon these games and see them for anything more than what they are — a couple of pretty good platformers and little else, and that’s fine.”

Pocket Tactics found Klonoa’s return to be a “splendid platformer” and thinks platforming segments still hold up to the likes of Mario and Crash Bandicoot:

“All in all, the Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is a splendid platformer, and it fills me with joy to know that many more people get to experience these beloved games. Who knows, perhaps this will lead to even more remasters. For now though, I encourage everyone to give this game a try, the joy it emits is infectious, the platforming segments rival that of Mario and Crash, while it also succeeds in reminding us that it stands alone, and that Klonoa has its own identity.”

Attack of the Fanboy awarded Bandai Namco’s latest release 4/5 stars – advising existing fans to treat themselves to the new versions:

“If you grew up playing Klonoa or even had a remote interest in the franchise back in the day, you need to do yourself a favor and treat yourself to these titles. Now that you can own two of the greatest retro platforming titles without having to shell out hundreds of dollars makes this an easy sell for those that are fans of the franchise. If you’re looking to fall in love with a platformer that wears its heart on its sleeve, you’ll be happy to know that these titles still do hold up tremendously well, even if they may not feel as polished as some newer games in the genre.If you’re willing to deal with some frustrations from dated design, you may find yourself head over heels for this loveable Dream Warrior, no I asked questions.”

Over at GamersRD this “much-needed remaster” was awarded 7.5/10 – here’s the translation:

“Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series is a good opportunity to play again with the characters of our childhood. It’s a much-needed remaster but it could have included better things for this generation.”

Nintendo yesterday announced it would be adding Pokémon Puzzle League to the Switch Online Expansion Pack service on 15th July. Over in Japan, however, the same service will be receiving the action role playing games Custom Robo and Custom Robo V2 developed by Noise.

These games have never been released here in the west, so they’re still rather unknown to many Nintendo fans out there. Fortunately, you’ll still be able to play them next week, if you really want – provided you have access to a Switch Online subscription and a Japanese Nintendo account.

Now, ahead of release, Nintendo has shared some screenshots of both of these games – showing off how they’ll both look on the Switch Online service:

It looks like the latest entry to the Nickelodeon Kart Racer franchise has been leaked via a retailer listing from Best Buy. The sequel to Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix will be called Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway and will launch later this year on October 7th, 2022.

That’s weird, right? videogames never leak..! Guffaw!

Anyway, the news gathered speed when it was reported by known game enthusiasts wario64 and has since been reported by multiple outlets (thanks to GoNintendo for this one!):

As for what Slime Speedway will look like, we don’t quite know yet, but we do have reasonably extensive information on the game via the listing. Here are a few of the highlights:

• The game will include a cast of over 40 characters
• You can transform your kart or bike into watercrafts to traverse various terrain
• “Millions” of customization options boasted
• 36 different tracks featured
• 90 Crew Members
• Multiplayer via split-screen local or online play

The first two Nickelodeon Kart Racer titles are available on Switch, and while we thought the first entry was kinda pants, the sequel did a heck of a lot to improve on the initial attempt, getting a respectable 7/10 in our review. How the third entry will fair is anyone’s guess at this stage.

Hopefully we’ll get an official announcement on Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway sooner rather than later.

It wasn’t long ago that Monster Hunter Rise was updated to version 10.0.2, but it’s clear Capcom has been working its little socks off, because version 10.0.3 is now live for all players.

The latest update isn’t as meaty as the previous one (which makes sense given a lot of it was earmarked for the Sunbreak DLC), but it does introduce some important bug patches and improvements that you’ll want to get downloaded.

Bug Fixes and Balance Adjustments

Player

– Fixed a bug causing your Palico’s Support Moves to change randomly when teaching them certain Secret Support Moves.

– Fixed a bug preventing a reload rating lowered by 2 levels from recovering, if you remove the Elemental Reload Switch Skill after performing a specific set of actions with the light bowgun.
(We’ve also confirmed a bug in the reload display under Equipment Info, and this will be addressed in a future update.)

monsters

– Fixed a bug causing the game to shut down when performing a specific string of attacks using the insect glaive’s Kinsect Bonus: Boosted Powder Extract on Rakna-Kadaki or Pyre Rakna-Kadaki.

Locales and Environment

– Fixed a bug in dialogue with the Buddy Scout newly added regarding Buddy Skills that was aimed at all players, instead of only affected players.

Quests

– For A1★ and A2★ quests, the health for all monsters and the attack power of some monsters has been adjusted.

Base and Facilities

– Fixed a bug very occasionally causing the game to freeze after using the Lottery with an amiibo.

miscellaneous

– Other miscellaneous bug fixes have been made.

So there you have it! Not a great deal for this update, but certainly one you’ll need to get added to ensure you’re getting the best experience possible.

Featured as part of Nacon’s Connect 2022 presentation, a new trailer for RoboCop: Rogue City has revealed gameplay and shed more light on the return of Detroit’s cybernetic law enforcer, including a first glimpse of veteran actor Peter Weller, who was revealed to be returning to the role of Alex Murphy in Robo-form.

The trailer features first-person footage from the game, as well as a look at various dialogue cutscenes and ol’ Robo drawers himself without his visor at the end. While it’s obvious that this isn’t footage of the Switch version of the game, it’s great to get an idea of ​​what developer Teyon has lined up. Rogue City is scheduled to launch in June 2023 — check it out above.

When the N64 library was originally announced for the Switch Online Expansion Pack, Nintendo teased a few other games – specifically for Japan. These titles were the N64 gems Custom Robo and Custom Robo V2.

Now, alongside the news today that Pokémon Puzzle League will be added to the service on 15th July, Nintendo has revealed Japan will (instead) be receiving the previously announced Custom Robo games on the same date.

In order to play them, you’ll need to have access to a Switch Online Expansion Pack subscription, and also a Japanese Nintendo Switch account – to download the N64 app for this region. If you are interested in checking these titles out, see our handy Nintendo Life guide for assistance.

The Custom Robo games were the last titles we knew were coming to the Switch Online N64 service in the future. From here on out, it’s a guessing game – and based on the surprise reveal of Pokémon Puzzle League today, it means any N64 game could be next. In saying this, there’s still a good chance it could be one we’ve already seen during the past Wii U eShop and Wii Channel generations.

Update [Thu 7th Jul, 2022 09:40 BST]: Spike Chunsoft has now released a brand new trailer showcasing all of the systems coming to the Made in Abyss RPG.

The beloved anime show has just returned for its second season, and it seems like the publisher is jumping on the buzz — and we don’t blame them!

Singer Riko Azuna — whose music has been used in the Made in Abyss show and Re:Zero — has also been confirmed to be singing the game’s ending song, ‘light’. Here’s what the singer had to say about her return:

This is Riko Azuna. As a fan of “Made in Abyss” I am truly honored to be performing the ending theme for Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness. On a long and endless adventure, Riko and her friends have strong hearts and keep moving forward. I sang the song with all my soul as if to guide the story so that the fleeting little light wouldn’t go out. Even after playing the game, you can still feel the vastness of the Abyss and the feelings of the adventurers that have been passed down from generation to generation. I hope you’ll be able to feel this when listening to the song “light”. I’m really looking forward to the day when you can play the game!

Original article [Tue 5th Jul, 2022 10:30 BST]: Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is coming to the Switch on 2nd September! This action RPG, which recreates the events of the Made in Abyss manga/anime series universe, features two different story modes — one following main characters Riko and Reg as they journey into the Abyss, and a second which sees you become a new “Bell “cave raider.

Now Spike Chunsoft has provided more details on that second mode, called ‘Deep in Abyss’, which we covered briefly in April. Alongside this new mode, which sees you collect relics and earn rewards to help develop your character in an original story, the publisher has also detailed more of the upcoming game’s skills and locations.

Here are all of the details from Spike Chunsoft’s press release:

The Story Begins
The main character joins Belchero Orphanage as a fledgling “Bell” Cave Raider. For classes and training, the main character joins the three other students, Raul, a boy who’s always full of energy, the quiet and inconspicuous Tiare, and Dorothea, who’s a bit of an airhead, A few months later, the four finally see the day of their first exploration as “Red Whistles,” but there they are already confronted with the harsh reality of the Abyss…

The Game Cycle
In “DEEP IN ABYSS” mode, players will challenge the Abyss as a new Cave Raider. While enjoying an original story advance through the main quests, collect relics, and complete various quests to earn rewards such as money and experience to develop your character. As you accumulate experience, the Cave Raider’s level will increase, and the player will be able to challenge deeper levels of the Abyss.

Prepare for Raiding/The Town of Orth
In the town of Orth, the base for Cave Raiders, prepare to challenge the Abyss by taking on quests and buying the necessities for your raid. As an apprentice “Red Whistle”, you will mainly receive your assignments from Jiruo at Belchero Orphanage, but as your Whistle level increases, the number of assignments you can receive will also increase. The town of Orth has the following facilities.

1. Guild HQ
This is the headquarters of the organization that provides work to Cave Raiders. Various quests can be accepted.
2 Supply Shops
A store that sells cave raiding essentials. Besides pickaxes, clothes and consumables are sold here.
3. Relic Appraisal
A store that appraises and buys relics brought back from The Abyss. Obtain money and experience here.
4. Laffi’s Store
A spice store run by Hablog’s wife Laffi. Purchase food and spices here.

Raiding the Abyss
The main objectives within the Abyss are main quests where an original story unfolds, guild quests accepted at the Guild HQ, and the collection of relics. The main character has three attributes: “physical strength”, “fullness”, and “stamina”. Both fullness and stamina are reduced when taking action. Stamina recovers automatically, but to recover fullness you’ll need to eat. It is important to eat regularly to maintain fullness, as stamina cannot be restored while fullness is at zero.

Raiding the Abyss involves avoiding hazards such as ferocious creatures and unstable terrain. When defeated by a large creature, they give a devastating “game-over” performance.

In addition to the three statuses, the player must consider numerous other factors when raiding the Abyss, including the surrounding environment, the health of the main character, the amount of remaining food, the durability of tools, and the weight of supplies. The player must pay attention to these factors and act appropriately, whether deciding to proceed with the raid, return to the surface, and sometimes even what to bring back.

After reaching their objective in the Abyss, the Raider must return to the surface. However, the further the Raider descends, the effects of “The Curse of the Abyss,” physical and mental burdens, become more intense as they return to the surface. The Raider may vomit, experience a significant decrease in fullness, or have blood gush from their body resulting in a decrease in fullness and stamina. In addition to “The Curse of the Abyss”, they may be attacked by creatures, the terrain may have changed or features that were present on the way down may not be available on the way back, forcing them to find a different route back.

If you’re a fan of the show and/or the manga, this is one game you won’t want to miss, and it looks extremely faithful to the cute but dark story told by Akihito Tsukushi.

We’ve got the latest Japanese charts, courtesy of Gematsu, and it’s a corker of a week for the newly released Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak DLC! The pack containing the main game and the expansion has comfortably taken the top spot in the charts with an almighty 104,315 units sold, beating out Nintendo Switch Sports by more than 80,000 units.

Elsewhere, Gran Turismo 7 has rejoined the top ten, marking the only blip in an otherwise Switch-centric offering. Mario Strikers: Battle League is still clining on in last place, though with the release of KLONOA Phantasy Reverie Series this week, the soccer title will likely drop further for next week’s charts.
